SYSTEMS ENGINEERS
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES -The System Engineer will apply systems engineering principles to support the budget formulation, budget execution, and agency's performance planning activities. Candidate will be required to utilize systems engineering experience in FAA planning processes to make recommendations in the design, procurement, and operation of NAS systems. This individual must have demonstrated experience in systems engineering concepts, to include an in-depth broad knowledge of the NAS automation, communication, surveillance, and navigation systems and experience working with FAA's system acquisition process. The position will entail the development and tracking of the agency goals for modernizing the NAS. The individual must have knowledge of FAA Strategic Goals, FAA operational concepts, and NAS Architecture as related to investment decisions. The position entails conducting analysis of risk assessments of NAS programs and conducting life-cycle management studies of legacy and replacement of NAS systems.
A. Principal Systems Engineer
Education: A master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, technical, scientific, or mathematical discipline from an accredited college or university. Individuals without a master's degree must have a bachelor's degree in the aforementioned disciplines and 15 or more years of relevant experience.
Experience: An individual with a master's degree and ten (10) or more years experience in systems engineering (or one of the disciplines identified above). A person without a master's degree must have a total of 15 or more years of relevant experience, and a minimum of a bachelor's degree in one of the disciplines identified above.
Of the total required demonstrated experience, ten to fifteen (10-15) years in aviation automation, communications, navigation, and/or surveillance systems must be demonstrated, based on the educational qualifications. [A minimum of five (5) years of those years must be involved with specific systems engineering studies. Additionally, five (5) years experience in support of FAA systems is required.]
B. Senior Systems Engineer
Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, technical, scientific, or mathematical discipline form an accredited college or university.
Experience: Eight or more years of relevant experience in system engineering combined with broad experience in automation, communications, navigation, and/or surveillance systems, in addition to the "Education" requirement.
C. Systems Engineer
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, technical, scientific, or mathematical discipline form an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five to seven (5-7) years combined experience in automation, communications, navigation, and/or surveillance systems, in addition to the "Education" requirement.
